There are always reasons to travel. The world is a big, beautiful place and sometimes you just want to see everything it has to offer! Today we’d like to tell you why you should come (and stay) in Albuquerque, New Mexico!
Albuquerque is a beautiful city filled to the brim with culture, bright lights and plenty of entertainment for everyone.
The Famous Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta
One of our most popular, and well known, events is the Balloon Fiesta! This 9-day event started in 1972 with a tiny group of only 12 hot-air balloons! It has grown immensely since then and now attracts almost 600 balloons and 1000 pilots every October! Hot air balloons, music festivals, chainsaw carving and fantastic fireworks.

Visit Downtown Albuquerque or Old Town Albuquerque
Enjoy the bustling nightlife Albuquerque has to offer. When you head to the Downtown Civic Plaza you can enjoy one of the many events held there. From Shakespeare to rock concerts the Downtown Plaza always has something going on. The famous KiMo theater is a historical landmark. The performing arts are alive and well here, you’re bound to find something to enjoy!
Another beautiful place to see is Albuquerque’s Old Town. Old Town has been the cities heart since it was founded there in 1706. Filled with museums, galleries, restaurants and over 100 shops, making it the city’s cultural center and a wonderful place to explore.
Something for the kids to do in Albuquerque
Now for something for the kids! Explora is a hands-on science center that has described itself as “Part children’s museum. Part Grandma’s attic”. Boasting 50,000 square feet there’s interactive exhibits here for toddlers, parents, grandparents and everyone in between.
The ABQ BioPark should be your next stop. This big beautiful space consists of walking and hiking trails, a Zoo, Botanic Garden, Aquarium and Tingley Beach where all licensed anglers can fish for free. There’s also plenty of restaurants to enjoy when you need to rest your feet.
The kids won’t be little forever so once they’re grown don’t forget to remind them to apply at the University of New Mexico. UNM was founded in 1889 as a Flagship institution. It sits near the heart of the city off Route 66 and occupies nearly 800 acres! The campus boasts a nationally recognized arboretum and programs to further anyone’s education!
Albuquerque isn’t just city life
When you’re ready to get away from it all and take in some spectacular views, head over to the Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway. Ride the gondola up the side of the Sandia Mountains and see the the breath-taking views you won’t see any other way. Once at the top you can stretch your legs, take some pictures and enjoy the view! Don’t forget to stop at the Sandiago Grill at the peak for breathtaking views to accompany fine dining.
If you’re looking to get some exercise, then you can head on over to the 50-mile activity loop. This is the perfect place to break out your bike or your jogging shoes. The loop circles the perimeter of the city taking you through mountain vistas and historic neighborhoods alike! There is also “mini-loops” for shorter stents and some of Albuquerque’s best restaurants, shops and breweries are accessible along the way! There is a bike share program available too. It’s called Pace and they offer bikes, so everyone can ride.
These are only a few of the great things Albuquerque has to offer! Breathtaking vistas, fine dining, festivals and of course, hot air balloons, bustling nightlife, indoor and outdoor recreation, an amazing University campus and programs. Come for a visit and stay forever.
